[1] Records that may have showed his date and circumstances of death were destroyed when the
Allen County Courthouse burned in 1902.
Statewide reporting of vital statistics in not begin until 1907. [2] John Alexander Ewing probably went by the name ‘Alex’ or ‘Alexander,’ rather than John. The records refer to him as John A., J.A. and as A. The custom of the times was to use initials more in written records than we do today. Since some of the records refer to his middle initial rather than to his first initial or both, it is likely that he used his middle name. [3] Their dates of birth are accurate only to within about a year. They come from census records that show how old they were every ten years. Some of the census records show when the census was taken, but others do not (legibly anyway). He is listed in Find A Grave for Green River Union Cemetery Lot number 127. He is shown as being born on April 12, 1875 and dying on October 10, 1897. [4] According to an abstract of Barren County, Kentucky marriages. Allen County Kentucky Free Deaths 1852-1861, Book D-G, show that Almarr
Ewing died on December 7, 1858 at the age of 5 months. He was the son of “A & M F Ewing.” His cause of death was unknown. [15]
