Footnotes for John Alexander Ewing

and Mary F. Warder

[1]   Records that may have showed his date and circumstances of death were destroyed when the

Allen County Courthouse burned in 1902.  Statewide reporting of vital statistics in Kentucky did

       not begin until 1907.

[2]   John Alexander Ewing probably went by the name ‘Alex’ or ‘Alexander,’ rather than John.  The

records refer to him as John A., J.A. and as A.  The custom of the times was to use initials more

in written records than we do today.  Since some of the records refer to his middle initial rather

than to his first initial or both, it is likely that he used his middle name.

[3]   Their dates of birth are accurate only to within about a year.  They come from census records that

show how old they were every ten years.  Some of the census records show when the census

was taken, but others do not (legibly anyway).  He is listed in Find A Grave for Green River Union

Cemetery Lot number 127.  He is shown as being born on April 12, 1875 and dying on October

       10, 1897.

[4]   According to an abstract of Barren County, Kentucky marriages.  Their original data is in Barren

       County,Kentucky Marriage Book A.

census was taken on October 5, 1850.

       Family Number 177.

[11] Born on July 27, 1847 in Allen County, Kentucky and died in 1907.

[12] Born on May 1, 1858 in Allen County, Kentucky and died on March 28, 1933 in Indianapolis,

Indiana.  All the records refer to him only as “Dee” or “D”.

[13] Born in May 1858, probably in Allen County, Kentucky.

[14] Allen County Kentucky Free Deaths 1852-1861, Book D-G, show that Almarr Ewing died on

December 7, 1858 at the age of 5 months.  He was the son of “A & M F Ewing.”  His cause of

      death was unknown.
